The ‘Redskins’ solution

I’m not going anywhere near the political focus on the situation. If you have been out of the loop, many people, including a few Native American tribes, have been requesting the Washington Redskins change their name, citing it is offensive to them. I find the Cleveland Indians (mostly because of their mascot) to be far more offensive. At any rate, I have a logic and honorable solution: simply change it to a specific tribe. It’s simple and honorable.

Celebrate a specific tribe and bring honor to them. They could even keep the logo, which I feel is similar to the Chicago Blackhawks logo, which to my knowledge has always been looked to honorably.

So what could they change the name to? I have some ideas:

  • Seminoles
  • Sentinels (used in the movie The Replacements)
  • Sioux
  • Blackfoot
  • Warriors (generic but it has an aliteration to it)
  • Tomahawks
  • Mohican
  • Thunder (no real Native American connection, but a cool name)

Just a few ideas. As I said, if they wish to keep the logo and Native American spirit, a simple name change to a specific tribe or a word that more honorably represents them, should satisfy any critics. If not, they are clearly looking for something else or have another agenda altogether.
