A week without a major injury to a skill player? That’s a good week. Which means this might be a slow edition of 1st and 5. Still, there were some nifty performances. In a tribute to Odell Beckham Jr. and his amazing catch…
QB: Alex Smith, Chiefs- For some reason Alex Smith is on the waiver wire in my 10 team league. Looks like he is only owned in 26% of ESPN leagues. Is he the right guy for you? Maybe. He has a matchup vs the Broncos this week.
RB: Latavius Murphy, Raiders- Is probably the “hot name” this week. He made quite an impact with his 4 carries last week: 112 yards rushing and 2 TDs. He then got knocked out with a concussion. Interim coach Tony Sparano also said to “pump the brakes” on him, which is always curious. His next 4 games are vs STL, SF, KC and BUF, so maybe that’s why Sparano was cautious. Keep an eye on: LaGarrette Blount, Patriots- Went back to New England and became Fantasy relevant. He pounded out 78 yards rushing and 2 TDs. Only thing there is Belichick rotates RBs more often than not.
WR: Robert Woods, Bills- I thought Woods was going to have more of a breakout season this year. I suppose it was hampered a little by EJ Manuel’s regression. Woods caught 9 balls for 118 and a score vs the Jets and should get some looks with Sammy Watkins playing through a groin injury. Keep an eye on: Jarvis Landry, Miami- is one of the many talented rookie receivers. Ryan Tannehill is starting to emerge as a solid passing QB. Landry has a great matchup this week vs the Jets.
TE: Andrew Quarless, Packers- Hold on, don’t spit your drink out just yet. This is more of a matchup play. Going up vs the Patriots, Belichick is most likely going to take away Lacy and Jordy Nelson, leaving Randall Cobb and Quarless the next men up. Quarless is on the waiver wire in 97.5% of ESPN leagues. This is obviously desperate move for those in need of an option. This is what we have in week 13.
D/ST: Giants- The only way I would ever suggest the Giants this season is if they had a real good matchup. They are playing the Jaguars who have given up the most points this year to D/STs. The Rams and Panthers also have decent matchups this week if they are available.
Good luck. Get into the playoffs!
