This week in Blackrock Mountain: Blackrock Spire

Welcome back to This week in Blackrock Mountain. This week we tackle Blackrock Spire. It was pretty interesting. Not as hard as last week, not quite as easy as the week before. Kind of a happy medium. Let’s jump right in.

Highlord Omokk is the first boss up in Blackrock Spire. Omokk is not too bad. His hero power is slightly annoying: for 1 mana destroy a damaged minion.

A Pyroblast to the face gets me the win!

Highlord Omokk defeated

The Core Rager is your reward for defeating Omokk. It is a 4/4 hunter minion with a Battlecry: gain +3/+3 if your hand is empty. A nifty card for sure.

General Drakkisath has some interesting mechanics going on. His hero power is passive: All cards cost 1; mana capped at 1.

General Drakkisath

General Drakkisath,

I made it close with my mage spell deck, but once I lost board control, it was all over. I had two switch to my druid deck, which has lots of big hitters in it.

Dragon Consort Reward

Dragon Consort reward.

You are rewarded with the Dragon Consort card. Looks like a 5/5 Warrior minion that has a Battlecry: The next Dragon you play costs (2) less. Underwhelming to be honest.

Rend Blackhand

Rend Blackhand, final boss in Blackrock Spire.

Rend’s Hero power is slightly annoying. For two mana, he either summons 3 1/1 Whelps, 1 1/1 Whelp with Taunt, or am 8/4 Dragon. You should pick up the strategy quickly. It took my 2 games, but I got it down. I also switched to my hunter.

It was a race to see who could do the most damage quickest.

Dragon Egg reward

Your reward for defeating Rend Blackhand is the Dragon Egg. An 0/2 minion that summons a 2/1 Whelp whenever it takes damage. The one mana cost is nice. I could see this working in a Warrior or Priest deck.

Rend Blackhand Legendary reward

Rend Blackhand Legendary reward.

Rend Blackhand Legendary minion is your reward for clearing the Blackrock Spire wing. Rend is a 8/4 Legendary minion with a Battlecry: If you are holding a Dragon, destroy a Legendary minion. Pretty cool, as long as you don’t have a legendary on board, I think. Not sure how it plays, but it sounds like it could destroy any. Perhaps it’s targetable.

Priest and Druid Class challenges unlocked

Defeating Rend also unlocks Priest and Druid Class challenges.

Priest Class challenge

General Drakkisath is your boss for the Priest Class challenge.

Another go at General Drakkisath with a premade Priest deck. You think you have a shot?

Priest Challenge defeated

I got some really good cards and just pummeled the good general. It felt good, I’m not gonna lie.

Twilight Whelp reward

Twilight Whelp reward.

The Twilight Whelp is your reward for completing the Priest Class challenge. This is a 2/1 minion with a Battlecry: If you are holding a Dragon, gain +2 health. It’s an interesting card for 1 mana.

Another crack at Rend Blackhand with a premade Druid deck. Go get ’em!

It took me two cracks at it, I got a really bad draw the first go ’round.

Volcanic Lumberer reward

Volcanic Lumberer reward.

The Volcanic Lumberer is your reward for completing the Druid Class challenge. This is a 7/8 minion with Taunt. It also costs (1) less for each minion that died this turn.

That concludes This Week in Blackrock Mountain: Blackrock Spire. Tune in next week for the Blackwing Lair wing!
