For the first time since Theo and Jed took over operations, the Cubs are in a spot to make a run at the playoffs coming out of the All-Star break.
Last year at this time, I was writing about what the designation of Darwin Barney could mean and the possibility of Baez and Soler getting to the big leagues. By September we caught a glimpse of the future. Arismendy Alcantara, Javy Baez, and Jorge Soler all were up and had a modest amount of success. Things were pretty exciting. Fast forward a year and the team is probably outperforming everyone’s expectations.
I admit, I had some lofty thoughts of my own, but I didn’t think Bryant would be this good, this fast. I thought we would be seeing a little more from Soler and Baez. Hopefully the time off gives some players a little much needed rest. I don’t know where the club will finish, or what players might be added to the mix, but this is shaping up to being an exciting few months of baseball.
Kyle Schwarber will no doubt come up at some point. At least by September when the rosters expand. Arismendy will probably rejoin the team and Baez should too.
