The Cubs seemed to have righted their ship after winning the last three series since the All-Star Break, and split with the White Sox. They still seem to be relying heavily on the homerun ball, but they also seem to be taking more pitches, and that is important.
They also are getting the quality pitching they had during their 25-6 run at the beginning of the season. Over the last 16 games, their record is 10-6. The most encouraging development being that Jake Arrieta has responded to the extra time off. Although Kyle Hendricks lost his streak of no runs given up, he bounced back last night with a complete game shutout vs the Miami Marlins. The Cubs team ERA leads the league at 2.52 since the All-Star break.
The bad part for them is that the St. Louis Cardinals have gone 10-7 since the All-Star break, leaving the Cubs only picking up 1 game on them. (1 in the loss column and one in the win column last night) It’s also good. They need to feel some pressure and feel like the games are meaningful. Hopefully they have put their losing streaks behind them, and can just keep winning series.
