Out of the many Cubs prospects that have been called up over the past 3 seasons, Javier Baez might be the most complete player. His defense is top notch, he has speed, and power. He can probably play every position on the field. The best thing about him? His attitude.
The tweet says it all. Here is a player that is willing to bunt as much as tee off and try to take one out of the park. If you have that attitude you have already won, no matter the outcome of the at bat.
I’ve been a fan of his, long before he was hitting game winning home runs in the playoffs. I think he is actually the best defensive player at three positions: second base, shortstop, and third base. This latest revelation underscores what I love about him as a player.
If the Cubs are to win in 2016 (and by that I mean win it all) it will largely be due to efforts like this. Don’t get me wrong, this attitude isn’t exclusive to Javy, other players have it too. From David Ross to Chris Coghlan, and almost everyone in between. I don’t know if this is an infection spread from Cubs manager Joe Maddon, or these players have had it coming in. Whatever the case may be, it’s spreading. Buckle up Chicago, it’s going to be a wild ride!
