Community Blog Topic: Which race would you like to become playable?

This week, we take a look at which race would we like to become playable. There are some nice options out there. Vrykul, Furbolg, Ogre and even Tuskarr sounds neat. I would also like the idea of High Elves being playable for the Alliance and/or Horde. But the one for me that I would like most is the ethereals.

If we go against the Burning Legion in the next expansion, this would be the time to bring the ethereals on board as a playable race. I would make them available to both Alliance and Horde. I think this model worked very well for Blizzard, despite Ghostcrawler expressing he didn’t think it worked well. To me, they would bring a lot to the table.

It’s hard to get a hostile ethereal to stop and take a pose unless he is trying to slice you.

Mainly ethereal engineering and hunters. This could lead to them teaching the gnomes to be “Mekkahunters” and build their own pets. We could have many new engineering gadgets. Lorewise, they could be the “ace in the hole” for us to fight the Legion.

Classes: Warrior, Mage, Rogue, Warlock, Hunter, Shaman, and Monk. I would like to include Deathknight but I’m not sure that would work in lore or Warcraft physics.

Racials: Arcane resistance– All arcane damage is reduced by 1%. Arcane spell attacks have the chance to heal the player for 1% of their total health for 6 seconds.

Warp Speed– Combat haste and movement speed is increased for 8-12 seconds on a 3 minute cooldown.

Portal up– Opens up a portal to your hearth location. This portal can be used by party members.

Phase out– Target enters the Nether for 15-20 seconds where they cannot be targeted/attacked and heal for X amount. Any movement/actions cancel this effect.

Reciprocity– Buying from a vendor grants you a discounted % when you sell with the same vendor. Discount lasts until daily reset and cannot exceed 15%. Does not stack with other discounts.

Customization: For those who complain there would be no customization options, take another look at their armor. They have shoulders, “boots”, bracers-which you can actually see. They could have different colored wrappings. If you watch one in game, they have this glowing energy that pulses inside them (their soul). This could be different colors as well. Ethereals are definitely not for everyone, but they would work for me.
